Ok, so let's get started!

I have decided to switch to soy and almond milk. I think I may be lactose intolerant anyway. For breakfast I blended some strawberries and bananas in with vanilla soy milk for breakfast (idea to be credited to my sis-in-law...thanks Ann!), and it was actually yummy and filling! I guess by biggest concern with all of this change in food is the cost. But like my hubby, Steve, said....we should lose weight just  because we have to eat less :-)

  1. Good job. I will let you know that I am 5'4" and weigh 197 lbs. I have told you that since I turned 39 I have committed to exercising every day. Today I went a mile and a half with Keith and John. I am going to begin working on Body for Life for Women. The most important thing they say is eat at least 5 times a day. I don't know how to make a profile. You know who I am.

  2. Remember, the cost only seems high at first. What you'll soon find out is that when you eat properly, you eat less...therefore, you spend less. You will start to fill up on less food.

And yes, I've heard about eating 5, 6 and even 8 times a day...supposed to keep your metabolism up. I kind of like the 5 times a day rule, and basically 2 of those (the 2nd and 4th times) are just light snacks like a cereal bar or one of those seasoned tuna snack packs.

Remember, eating well takes planning. If you plan your meals weekly or even just at the beginning of each day (when you're not hungry) you can be sure you're not going over your calorie count or getting too much sodium or something. Plus, this lets you see what you'll need grocery-wise :)

Remember your whole grains, fruits and veggies. And don't totally deny yourself some of the yummy stuff...it's good in moderation. If you totally cut out "junk food" then you're going to want it more and more as time goes on. But if you get a little each week (like once or twice) you're body won't go into complete withdrawal and you'll be able to stick to a diet plan better.

See, didn't I tell you the shake was gonna be yummy? :)

And just so we're on the same page, I'm 5'4" at 207 lbs...down from 220 :) I'm holding strong at 207 probably because I don't get much walking in like I used to...but I am just thankful I'm not gaining. I also try to keep my daily calorie intake between 1100 and 1200...I manage to keep it in that bracket about 4-5 days a week at the moment. My overall goal is to lose about 40-50 more pounds, but I would be so happy to be under 200 as my first step.
